Disneyland An aerial view of Disneyland park in Anaheim, California Already in the '40s, Disney had the idea to build an amusement park for employees and their families had fun in their spare time. Over time, this rather modest project would grow to become Disneyland. Two parks are often cited as a source of inspiration for Disney to your project: Children's Fairyland in Oakland, California, built in 1950, Tivoli Gardens, Denmark's capital Copenhagen. Eric Gozlan also stated that Disney may have inspired to create Disneyland Park Children's Republic, located in Manuel B. Gonnet, Argentina, and opened in 1951, citation needed though some say that it is a myth. He got his idea from Disneyland, visited many amusement parks, but in general seemed dirty and poorly managed. His original plan was to build the park on land adjacent to the studios, but the city of Burbank was denied permission to build, and the ground was also too small, so the company purchased land of 160 acres (730.000 m ), originally planted with orange and walnut trees in Anaheim, Orange County, neighboring Los Angeles. In 1952, Disney created a new subsidiary of his company, WED Enterprises (named after the initials of his name: Walter Elias Disney), to deal with planning and building the park. Some members of the study participated in the project as engineers and designers. Construction of Disneyland began on 21 July 1954. The park opened to the public on 18 July 1955.
